Pavel Kubíček from SPOLCHEMIE - Personality of Czech Chemistry 2022
The prestigious award "Personality of Czech Chemistry 2022" was awarded in memoriam to Ing. Pavel Kubíček, who for many years belonged to the most important personalities of SPOLCHEMIE. His wife Monika Kubíčková received the award at this year's November Evening with Czech Chemistry, which is organized annually by the Association of Chemical Industry of the Czech Republic.
Pavel Kubíček was not only an excellent chemist, researcher and manager, but also the brain of many key projects of this important chemical plant, where he worked for 29 years until his unexpected death on March 4, 2021. He started in SPOLCHEMIE as an assistant in the field of chemical research and gradually worked his way up to the head of the research department and director of R&D at the inorganic chemistry unit. As a person with a great vision, he had a direct influence on the company's development strategy and it is mainly to his credit that SPOLCHEMIE today focuses on highly promising areas and is one of the top companies on the market.
For example, it is thanks to Pavel Kubíček that SPOLCHEMIE was one of the first in the world to develop and implement the production of epichlorohydrin from the renewable raw material glycerine. He was also at the beginning of a project for a new research center, a project for the use of hydrogen in transport, a project for desalination of wastewater or a project for the production of chlorinated precursors for 4th generation F-gases which, once completed, will have a global beneficial impact in the fight against global warming.
Pavel Kubíček was also a recognized authority among a wide range of professional organizations. In the past, he was awarded the Ettl Award for the most important industrial workers in the field of research and innovation, and the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague nominated him several times for the Czech Mind Award. His sudden passing caused by Covid-19 has affected the whole company very much – it lost a great colleague, a good person and an expert who will not see the successful implementation of some of the projects mentioned above which were based on his ideas, inventions and unique expertise.
