Spolchemie – a Partner in the Final of the Nationwide Young Chemist Competition

A winner has been determined in the final of the ninth yearly nationwide contest, In Search of the Best Young Chemist in the Czech Republic.  The king of young chemists for the year 2021 is Jan Najbert from the primary school Slovanské Náměstí in Brno.  Again this year Spolchemie has been a partner in this successful nationwide contest.

The national final of the largest chemical competition was conducted in the form of online testing.  38 of the most successful students out of a total of 10,000 students from eighth and ninth grades participated in the contest.  This attests to the continuing interest among younger generations not only in the contest, but also in chemistry as a prospective field of study and employment.

The winner received, in addition to an award certificate and a trophy, a gift certificate worth 5,000 crowns and a scholarship in the amount of 36,000 crowns for the first year of studies at the Faculty of Chemical Technology at the University of Pardubice.  The second-place winner was announced by the Director of the Department of Higher Educational Institutions at the Ministry of Education, Karolína Gondková.  Marek Kroviář from Vratimov primary school placed second, and Kateřina Amálie Rumpíková from primary school Luhačovice battled to win the third rung.

“This year’s contest showed that Young Chemist is a highly viable project which can even withstand extremely unfavorable conditions.  We have verified that in an emergency we are able to move the competition online without hurting the quality of its execution.  It is also gratifying to observe the growing interest reflected in our partner companies.  Young Chemist currently presents the most successful means of advertising and popularizing chemistry among students in primary schools, and this then helps to increase attendance at technical high schools and at universities that have a technical focus.  From a long-term perspective this contributes to solving the issue of the generational renewal of workers in our field,” said Ivan Souček, the Director of the Chemical Industry Union for the Czech Republic, the organizer of this nationwide final.
